Method

  1. 1

Get the potatoes going first, because these are going to take the longest. Peel them, chop them into chunks and get them into some salted boiling water.

  2. 2

Splash of oil into a pan and in with the beef mince. Break it up and let it brown.

  3. 3

Add the diced onion, carrot and mixed veg. Give everything a good mix and let those vegetables soften.

  4. 4

Add the tomato purée, beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and a little bit of thyme. Big stir, and let it simmer away.

  5. 5

Come back to the potatoes. When they are soft all the way through, drain them and mash them with the butter and milk. Hit them with a little salt.

  6. 6

Get the mince mixture into an oven dish and spread the mashed potato over the top.

  7. 7

Give the top a few little lines with your fork, and into the oven at 200C for 20 to 25 minutes, until the top is golden.
